Defendant was indicted in 1999 on multiple counts involving obstruction of justice, witness tampering, bribery, producing perjured testimony, and money laundering. The indictment arose from Defendant’s attempts to avoid prosecution as the head of a drug trafficking organization that was active beginning in the 1970s and continuing into the 1990s.
